AACFCU Donates $15,000 to Fort Rucker’s Army Emergency Relief Fund

ArmyAviationCenterFederal Credit Union (AACFCU) presented a donation of $15,000 toFortRucker’s Army Emergency Relief (AER) Fund at the 2011 AER Campaign Closing Ceremony on May 23. Funds were primarily raised from AACFCU’s Annual Golf Tournament held each year at Silver Wings Golf Course atFortRucker. All proceeds from the golf tournament were donated to AER.
AER is the Army’s own emergency financial assistance program dedicated to helping active and retired soldiers when there is a vital need. In 2010,FortRucker’s AER gave loans and grants to local soldiers totaling $250,495.
The $15,000 donation also included a matching grant of $1,500 from the Armed Forces Financial Network (AFFN). AACFCU has been fortunate to receive matching grants from AFFN for the past six years. AFFN is an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) Network founded in 1985, co-owned by The Defense Credit Union Council and The Association of Military Banks of America, serving over 352 defense credit unions and military banks, 93 million cardholders, at over 500, 000 ATMs and 2 million merchant/retail locations globally. AACFCU Awards Scholarships to Ten High School Seniors
AACFCU is proud to award ten $1,000 scholarships to area high school seniors. Scholarship winners competed against nearly 100 other students from AACFCU’s service area and scored as the top ten candidates. Applicants were judged on academic achievement, extra-curricular activities and essay responses.
Scholarship winners are as follows:

- Samantha Kasten, Destin, Fla.: Graduate of Fort Walton Beach High School
- Andrew Mouser, Newton, Ala.: Graduate of Providential Academy Home School
- Elizabeth Murray, Dothan, Ala.: Graduate of Providence Christian School
- Nursen Ogutveren, Ozark, Ala.: Graduate of Alabama School of Fine Arts
- Naomi Perez, Enterprise, Ala.: Graduate of Enterprise High School
- Connor Richey, New Brockton, Ala.: Graduate of Enterprise High School
- Alexis Smith, Dothan, Ala.: Graduate of Dothan High School
- Emily Squier, Enterprise, Ala.: Graduate of St. John the Evangelist Church School
- Amanda Stefin, Dothan, Ala.: Graduate of Northview High School

AACFCU Wins Youth and Adult Financial Education Award
AACFCU has been named the winner of the 2011 Desjardins Youth and Adult Financial Education Award by the League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU). AACFCU competed against credit unions throughoutAlabamaandFloridafor the award.
According to the LSCU website, the Desjardins Youth & Adult Financial Education Award recognizes leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of youth and adult financial literacy. It considers all activities supporting the personal finance education of young and adult members and nonmembers, including, but not limited to, face-to-face teaching, publicity, lobbying for curriculum requirements, teacher and volunteer training and promotion and use of educational programs.
ArmyAviationCenterFederal Credit Union received this award because of its numerous educational programs such as financial education classes to area schools, Boys and Girls Clubs and other organizations, Credit Union Days at local schools and adult seminars.
ArmyAviationCenterFederal Credit Union also won second place in the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award for its asset size for the second consecutive year. The Dora Maxwell award honors credit unions for their work in the community and recognizes credit unions who demonstrate the credit union philosophy of “People-Helping-People.”
ArmyAviationCenterFederal Credit Union is scheduled to receive the awards at the September meeting of the Wiregrass Chapter of the LSCU.
